One of the most requested features from our user community is the ability to edit the content of SMS (text) messages that Timely sends out to customers. The idea being that you can write your own message in a style that better represents your business rather than using our words (good as they are).

As of today, you can now create your own templates with your own words for these SMS messages. Simply head on over to Settings > SMS templates to get started.

The list of templates you can modify depends on the notification and reminder settings of your account. Examples include: appointment reminders, appointment confirmed, class cancelled, and so on.

Write whatever words you want to appear in the message, making sure to include our placeholders to insert times, dates, services, and other dynamic content. For example, if I want the appointment message to read:

Hi John, this is a friendly reminder of your appointment with Doe Day Spa on Fri, 2 Aug at 11:47 AM. Look forward to seeing you!

Then you should write it up like this:

Hi FIRST_NAME, this is a friendly reminder of your appointment with BUSINESS_NAME on BOOKING_DATE. Look forward to seeing you!

The place holders must be spelt correctly (including the underscores) and they must be in upper case. In fact, it’s easier to simply copy and paste the placeholders from the list provided (see the screenshot below):

As you can see from the screenshot above, we even give you a handy preview so you know what your message will look like when its sent. If you make a mistake and want to start over, you can always reset your template by clicking the “Reset to default” button.

Once you are happy with your message, make sure to to click the green “Save templates” button at the bottom of the page to save your new message:

That’s it, jump into Timely now and give it a go!

P.S. We offer no guarantees that your customers will understand your txt abbreviations :)
